VeeJay says, "Who is Arundhati Roy?"

She is a new celebrity. She has written books. She is on a tour circuit. She is winning this award and that.

We like reading what she says. Do we ever. She is insightful and bold. After reading her writings, speeches, and public statements, don't you just want to jump up and shout, Yes! Bravo!" She says things which have long needed saying.

Anti-American? Not really. Anti-imperialist would be more apt. Ian Buruma in The New Republic, 29 Apr 2002. He says "Roy has become the perfect Third World voice for anti-American, or anti-Western, or even anti-white, sentiments."

The Progressive Interview, by David Barsamian
progressive.org/intv0401.html

"It is a myth that the free market breaks down national barriers. The free market does not threaten national sovereignty, it undermines democracy... But remember this: We be many and they be few. They need us more than we need them." Arundhati's speech on confronting the Empire, Porto Alegre, Brazil, 28 January 2003
Arundhati, it may seem so to you now but, when the plug is pulled on energy you will see how expendable the many are.

"Who is America fighting? On September 20, the FBI said that it had doubts about the identities of some of the hijackers. On the same day President George Bush said, "We know exactly who these people are and which governments are supporting them." It sounds as though the president knows something that the FBI and the American public don't."
Duh. Of course Dubya knew.

"For strategic, military and economic reasons, it is vital for the US government to persuade its public that their commitment to freedom and democracy and the American Way of Life is under attack. In the current atmosphere of grief, outrage and anger, it's an easy notion to peddle. However, if that were true, it's reasonable to wonder why the symbols of America's economic and military dominance - the World Trade Center and the Pentagon - were chosen as the targets of the attacks. Why not the Statue of Liberty? Could it be that the stygian anger that led to the attacks has its taproot not in American freedom and democracy, but in the US government's record of commitment and support to exactly the opposite things - to military and economic terrorism, insurgency, military dictatorship, religious bigotry and unimaginable genocide (outside America)? It must be hard for ordinary Americans, so recently bereaved, to look up at the world with their eyes full of tears and encounter what might appear to them to be indifference. It isn't indifference. It's just augury. An absence of surprise. The tired wisdom of knowing that what goes around eventually comes around. American people ought to know that it is not them but their government's policies that are so hated. They can't possibly doubt that they themselves, their extraordinary musicians, their writers, their actors, their spectacular sportsmen and their cinema, are universally welcomed. All of us have been moved by the courage and grace shown by firefighters, rescue workers and ordinary office staff in the days since the attacks."
In glaring contrast to the nationalistic jingoism of America's media, Her comments immediately after the September 11 WTC crashes were far more accurate than most laser guided bombs. Except perhaps for the disingenuous line "not them but their government's policies that are so hated." Are Americans so unaware of what their government does? Or why? Or for whom the benefits of such nefarious government actions accrue?

"Madeleine Albright, then the US secretary of state, was asked on national television what she felt about the fact that 500,000 Iraqi children had died as a result of US economic sanctions. She replied that it was 'a very hard choice', but that, all things considered, 'we think the price is worth it'."
Executioners as well as Secretaries of State can now be female as well as male.

"Infinite Justice/Enduring Freedom for whom?"
"The sophistry and fastidious algebra of infinite justice. How many dead Iraqis will it take to make the world a better place? How many dead Afghans for every dead American? How many dead women and children for every dead man? How many dead mojahedin for each dead investment banker?"
commondreams.org/views01/1003-09.htm
Without such sophistic and fastidious smokescreens, the consent of Americans for the perpetual wars necessary to continue the world hegemony which supports their self-centered lives couldn't be manufactured. What could be better than some good old fashioned American reality construction?

On a lighter side here is a Salon.com interview,
The author of "THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS" talks about India, the Obscenity charge she faces and how writing is like Architecture.

Dose Arundhati Roy have courage? Is she bold? Does she have insight? She tells it like it is, almost. What is the problem with Arunhati Roy? She is not courageous enough. She is not bold enough. She is not insightful enough. Almost telling it like it is is not enough.

Is she naive? As naive as the rest of the world? Her naivete makes her efforts nothing more than an exercise in futility. If her goal were to enable the world to throw off the vassal's yoke, what she has shown thus far will guarantee failure.

As Arundhati Roy counts the growing revenues from each new book, the Good Ole Boys are tightening their iron grip on Oil. Iraq's oil is in the bag. Bush has given notice to African Banana Republic puppets that they must give control of their oil to Uncle Sam. Which will refuse? None can be expected to refuse. What's left? Indonesia? Venezuela? Iran? Each has a government more shaky than a house of cards. Control of world Oil will be complete very soon. Very very soon.

"Infinite Justice/Enduring Freedom for whom?"
"fastidious algebra of infinite justice."
Guess what? The Good Ole Boys take such calculations VERY, VERY seriously.

Does Arundhati Roy have as much to gain as the Good Ole Boys? Does she have as much to lose? Is she as serious as they are? Is her need great? The need of the Good Ole Boys has never been greater. If they throw this opportunity away, they lose not only world hegemony but, everything. If they take advantage of their well planned chess board layout, they gain complete undisputed control of all aspects of what will remain of humanity, forever. Clearly Arundhati Roy underestimates what a powerful motivation that is.

A sword of Damocles threatening all of humanity. All except those relaxing underground in the bunker with Good Ole Boy, Dick Cheney. Will they pull the plug on energy? You hope not. We hope not. Almost everybody hopes not. But that's not going to stop them whenever they decide they want to go ahead and do it.

All they have to do is...
PULL THE PLUG.

Think again Arundhati, while there may still be time.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some 50 miles of concrete highway. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. This, I repeat, is the best way of life to be found on the road the world has been taking. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron." -- Republican President and Five Star General Dwight D. Eisenhower

FEMA - The Secret Government.
What is FEMA? Federal Emergency Management Agency. Sounds innocuous enough.

"Though it may be the most powerful organization in the United States, few people know it even exists... FEMA was created in a series of Executive Orders. A Presidential Executive Order, whether Constitutional or not, becomes law simply by its publication in the Federal Registry. Congress is by-passed. Executive Order Number 12148 created the Federal Emergency Management Agency "
So what, right? Still don't see any problem?
"FEMA has only spent about 6 percent of its budget on national emergencies, the bulk of their funding has been used for the construction of secret underground facilities"
A government agency which was funded for one reason and carries on with different activities. Where have we heard that before? Here's what's new about it.

"Some people have referred to it as the "secret government" of the United States. It is not an elected body, it does not involve itself in public disclosures, and it even has a quasi-secret budget in the billions of dollars. This government organization has more power than the President of the United States or the Congress, it has the power to suspend laws, move entire populations, arrest and detain citizens without a warrant and hold them without trial, it can seize property, food supplies, transportation systems, and can suspend the Constitution. Not only is it the most powerful entity in the United States, but it was not even created under Constitutional law by the Congress. It was a product of a Presidential Executive Order. No, it is not the U.S. military nor the Central Intelligence Agency, they are subject to Congress. The organization is called FEMA, which stands for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Originally conceived in the Richard Nixon Administration, it was refined by President Jimmy Carter and given teeth in the Ronald Reagan and George Bush Administrations "
"The scenarios established to trigger FEMA into action are generally found in the society today, economic collapse, civil unrest, drug problems, terrorist attacks, and protests against American intervention in a foreign country. All these premises exist, it could only be a matter of time in which one of these triggers the entire emergency necessary to bring FEMA into action, and then it may be too late, because under the FEMA plan, there is no contingency by which Constitutional power is restored."
sonic.net/sentinel/gvcon6.html
The official government FEMA site of course has no mention of the specific emergency powers which make many Americans uneasy about what could happen if the Good Ole Boys take the notion, i.e., continue in the same direction relentlessly.

Will these be used as concentration camps??
The Good Ole Boys are ready for Armageddon. Are you?

"There over 600 prison camps in the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive prisoners. They are all staffed and even surrounded by full-time guards, but they are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) should Martial Law need to be implemented in the United States. The Rex 84 Program was established on the reasoning that if a mass exodus of illegal aliens crossed the Mexican/US border, they would be quickly rounded up and detained in detention centers by FEMA. Rex 84 allowed many military bases to be closed down and to be turned into prisons. Operation Cable Splicer and Garden Plot are the two sub programs which will be implemented once the Rex 84 program is initiated for its proper purpose. Garden Plot is the program to control the population. Cable Splicer is the program for an orderly takeover of the state and local governments by the federal government. FEMA is the executive arm of the coming police state and thus will head up all operations. The Presidential Executive Orders already listed on the Federal Register also are part of the legal framework for this operation. The camps all have railroad facilities as well as roads leading to and from the detention facilities. Many also have an airport nearby. The majority of the camps can house a population of 20,000 prisoners. Currently, the largest of these facilities is just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. The Alaskan facility is a massive mental health facility and can hold approximately 2 million people."

Don't you hope it ain't so? But you have seen George's relentless pattern, haven't you? Nahh. He couldn't be that crazy. Could he?
