chi kyuu

Cities can be viewed from spacecraft circling the globe or from spacecraft in geosyncronous orbits. Either way the images which can be photographed are interesting. You may find images of your favorite city in the Cities, eol.jsc.nasa.gov/cities/ collection. "Here you can look up your favorite city on our list and display digital images for some of the best photographs, selected outstanding photos of cities around the world." Baton Rouge

STS064-216-086 Baton Rouge, Louisiana, U.S.A. September 1994
"Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, is situated on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River (near center of photograph). Discernible are many streets and highways throughout the metropolitan area. The highly reflective surfaces along the Mississippi River are petroleum processing facilities. Narrow "long lots" radiating from the Mississippi River illustrate French influence regarding the ownership of riverfront property. Darker, uniform areas are dense stands of vegetation, primarily forests."

Duluth

STS064-213-084 Duluth/Superior Area, Minnesota September 1994
"The twin cities of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin (center of the image) can be seen in this northeast-looking view. Lake Superior is the deepest of the five Great Lakes. The city has a superb natural harbor and shared with Duluth, has some of the United States largest coal and ore docks. Superior has shipyards, high grain elevators, oil refineries, and a large dairy products industry. The city is built largely on rock bluffs overlooking Lake Superior. Duluth is the chief ore shipping point for the United States steel mills. The city is also a leading exporter of grains. "
